What is distributed fiber?

2020/6/10

Distributed optical fiber temperature sensing uses the entire transmission optical fiber as a sensor. Each point on the optical fiber for temperature measurement has both the functions of "transmission" and "sensing". In the distributed optical fiber temperature sensing system, when a strong pulsed laser signal is transmitted in the optical fiber, each point in the optical fiber will produce weak backscattering of the laser signal, which can be divided according to the wavelength of the scattered optical signal Rayleigh scattering, Raman scattering and Brillouin scattering. Among them, the intensity of the Raman scattering signal has a great correlation with the temperature of the location of the point. By detecting the light intensity of the scattered light signal of each point, the temperature information of the point is obtained, and then the temperature distribution on the entire fiber.
